Mississippi School Boards Association Past President and President of the Laurel School District Board of Trustees, Miranda Beard has been elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the National School Boards Association (NSBA). Beard was elected during the Delegate Assembly April 4 at the organization’s annual conference in New Orleans.

Ms. Beard has served on the Laurel School Board for more than thirteen years and has recently been re-appointed to another five-year term. Beard is assistant news content director at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg. The journalist of 27 years also served on the NSBA Policies and Resolution Committee, Among her many professional and community activities, she is Legislative Liaison for the Laurel School Board; Advisory Board member for the University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism; and a member of the State Board of Directors for Greater Mississippi Girl Scouts.

Beard has served as Director, Vice-President, and President of the board of directors of the Mississippi School Boards Association and is the first school board to represent Mississippi as an NSBA Officer in more than twenty years.
