Hot Topics Feedback

(Jim Keith's School Discipline PowerPoint)

MSBA has compiled your comments from the October 5th Hot Topics presentation with MSBA Legal Counsel, Jim Keith. According to your positive feedback, the event was a success; giving administrators and district officials Jim Keith's expert insight into the legal ramifications of school discipline. MSBA thanks all those who attended the October 5th Hot Topics and offered suggestions to help make our programs even more effective and informative. We have posted some of the comments from the Hot Topics presentation and have addressed some of the suggestions voiced by attendees.

Here's what our attendees said:

"Excellent! I wish it was longer. I could listen to Mr. Keith Speak for Days! Very Informative"
- Jim Keith is one of the state's leading school law experts. If you enjoyed this Hot Topics Presentation, see Jim Keith speak at the upcoming Hot Topics Presentations, at our Fall Leadership Conference in November and again at MSBA's Annual Conference in February.

"I wish there had been information regarding Parliamentary Procedure and agendas for board meetings."
-Information about Parliamentary Procedure and board agendas is discussed during our Continuing Education course, Conducting Effective Meetings. Click here to view dates, times and details about MSBA's Continuing Education Programs.

"I would like to see MSBA take an active role in helping make policy to address house bills and regulations."
-MSBA has daily representation at the Capitol during the legislative session and provides assistance with drafting legislation. Annually, MSBA creates or revises policies in response to current legislation. Most recently, MSBA has developed sample policies regarding mandatory Sex-Education curriculum choices (Abstinence-Only and Abstinence-Plus) and the Mississippi Department of Education's implementation of a mandated Professional Educator's Code of Ethics.

"I would have liked to hear more about Hiring Practices and advertising for job openings. What does the law require?"
-Our next Hot Topics presentation will feature just that! On January 18th, MSBA will host another Hot Topics seminar focused on Education Employment Procedures Law (EEPL), Non-renewals and other personnel issues. Click here for more information and to register.

"Please include PowerPoint notes to follow next time"
-A copy of Jim Keith's PowerPoint presentation has been added to this page. Click here for Jim Keith's PowerPoint.

"Very Helpful."
-MSBA appreciates your support and interest in these issues. We hope programs like Hot Topics provide clarity and know-how for situations that might arise in your district or school.

 "Great Conference!"
- We hope to see you at the next one!

"Thanks for all you do for education in Mississippi"
- No, thank you! We provide the information and training, but it's YOU who are strengthening Mississippi's education system.
