- Advancing student achievement — supporting policies and initiatives which produce measurable academic growth
- Exemplifying effective governance — upholding high standards of accountability, collaboration, and boardsmanship
- Engaging the community — fostering trust and partnerships which strengthen local public schools
Nominations for Board Member of the Year must include:
- A completed nomination form
- Three letters of support
- Documented evidence of the nominee’s leadership and accomplishments
The nomination process is open until Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The MSBA School Board Member of the Year will be honored at the MSBA Annual Conference, a gathering of school leaders from across the state to celebrate excellence in governance and public education.
The inaugural award, which was presented in 2009, continues to spotlight the vital role school board members play in shaping the future of Mississippi’s students, its schools, and its communities.
