School Board Policy

Having comprehensive policies in place to guide district and school operations is critical to the successful operation of a school district. Learn about required policies, governing by policy, and recent policy revisions.

Boards of Education need to ensure that school districts and students will be better able to meet the demands of the future by instituting an ongoing, comprehensive planning process. Learn how to set and monitor goals, to align resources, and to achieve district goals and priorities.

Selecting and evaluating the superintendent is one of the school board’s most important jobs. A quality superintendent evaluation process helps develop good board/superintendent relationships, provides clarity of roles, creates common understanding of the leadership being provided, and provides a mechanism for accountability.

A major responsibility of the school board is adopting the school district budget and ensuring that the necessary financial policies are in place to prevent fraud, waste, and misappropriation. Become better informed about the board’s role in school district finance.
